About the event

In June 1865, the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas finally learned that they had been set free from slavery—two years after Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation that declared them free. For Black Americans June 19th is a day of independence and emancipation and as we continue to build a better world, we must build in the systems that continue to help us prosper and heal. Rest is at the forefront of those systems.  As Tricia Hersey said, "Rest pushes back and disrupts a system that views human bodies as a tool for production and labor. It is a counter-narrative. We know that we are not machines. We are divine."

Join India on June 17th at the Midtown Farmer's Market, in a Juneteenth celebration of Rest and Resistance. This class is a free offering dedicated to rest and restoration. All are welcome to join us to rest and resist.
